PTU Delegation Visits YU on the 14th to Sign MOU

Strengthening Global Research Collaboration in Science Fields...YU-PTU Synergy Expected

YU Expands Academic and Research Networks in Central Asia

[February 20, 2025]

YU (President CHOI Oe-chool) continues to advance its academic exchanges with universities in Central Asia, now extending its collaboration to the science fields through a partnership with Uzbekistan's Pharmaceutical Technical University (PTU), a national institution receiving strong government support.

On the afternoon of the 14th, YU President CHOI Oe-chool welcomed Djumanov Abdumalik, President of PTU, and his delegation to the main conference room of the university's Main Administration Building, where the two institutions signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to promote academic exchange and joint research. Established in 2020 by a presidential decree of Uzbekistan, PTU is a state-run higher education institution offering British degrees in fields such as biochemistry, biomedicine, and MSci Pharmacy through educational programs from the University of Sunderland (UK). Located at the heart of Tashkent Pharma Park, a government-supported hub for pharmaceutical innovation, PTU operates as a research-focused university, providing elite education exclusively to students awarded national scholarships.

During the visit, President Djumanov Abdumalik expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “We are delighted to collaborate with YU, a global leader in pharmacy, chemistry, and other scientific fields. I look forward to vibrant student exchanges and collaborative research that will drive technological advancement in both countries.”

In response, YU President CHOI Oe-chool highlighted the significance of the partnership: “While YU has already established partnerships with several universities in Uzbekistan, PTU stands as our first science-focused collaborator, making this agreement especially meaningful. By combining the expertise of our distinguished researchers, I am confident that we will achieve globally recognized outcomes. This partnership will further expand YU’s scientific and technological collaborations across Central Asia.”

YU has already established diverse international education programs with other Uzbek universities, including:

Tashkent University of Information & Technology (TUIT) and Tashkent Turin Polytechnic University (TTPU) for engineering,

Samarkand State University (SamSU) for Saemaul Studies, and

Samarkand International University of Technology (SIUT) for design. With the signing of this MOU with PTU, YU now plans to expand its international educational and research collaborations in the science fields, further strengthening its academic presence in Uzbekistan and the broader Central Asian region.
